August 17th, 2026 Storms blew through this weekend and the trails were damp this morning. the first morning that had a nod to fall.

Welcome Friend,

Have you noticed the sky recently?

Do the clouds sweep across your horizon?

Has the August sun warmed your shoulders?

I've been reminded of the blessing of clear air and alpine spaces. How quickly we take for granted the essential oxygen that fuels our lungs so that we may play, work and be in the places that fill our soul.

It was in the presence of clear skies and alpine lakes that I was able sit and breathe. To cherish in solitude both surround by friends but also while swimming amongst the peaks. How my body craves the cold plunge of these places.

Have you thought about place recently? I believe like people, places come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Mine are easy. The places that have defined me ...

McCarthy Alaska, a story best told over a glass of whiskey. But lets just say my daughter's middle name is McCarthy and that life gave my husband and I a second chance at love.

The Pacific Ocean. Specifically the coast from the San Juan Islands north to Aialik Bay, AK. In my 20's and early 30's I found myself paddling different sections of this wild coast. I will forever be in debt to the lessons learned from these cold waters and species that call it home.

The Rockies, and specifically the high alpine. From childhood memories amongst the Colorado 14ers, to college and grad school in Montana and the Tetons. To the west central mountains of Idaho where we've rooted our family.

Places help tell our story. Marking our journey amongst geologic folds of our planet.

Where is your place of "reason", "season" and "lifetime?"

I DARE YOU
WEDGE YOUR BARE FEET INTO THE GROUND
THE SOIL, THE GRASS, THE SAND.
FEEL THE PLACE YOU ARE ROOTED IN.

Nourishment

Ok.... so I haven't tried this specific recipe, so if you get to it before me let me know! But this time of year I start craving fresh fish from Alaska. Salmon, halibut, shrimp, cod... I could literally eat it all!

REVERENCE

Reverence is a personal letter from Kim the founder of Mapphouse, shared with you the 1st and 15th of the month. Not your typical business newsletter. Part pen pal. Part poetry. Most definitely grammar your 8th grader English teacher would cringe at. But real moments from my journal to your inbox.
